PHOTO ALBUM 2002
Our first trip outside of Puebla was to the colonial cities of San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato, both in the state of Guanajuato in central Mexico. San Miguel is a magnet for expatriate artists. Guanajuato is an amazing city, built in a narrow canyon. Most houses are on narrow "callejones" that wind up the sides of the canyon. Guanajuato also hosts an annual arts festival known as the Cervantino. A delightful museum in Guanajuato contains a large collection of art works, all depicting something from Cervantes' novel "Don Quixote." Guanjuato was also a major silver mining center and is the birthplace of the artist Diego Rivera.
